When Lake Wales homes need painting prep
Lake Wales sits on the Lake Wales Ridge in eastern Polk County, where US 27 and SR 60 cross, and is known for Bok Tower Gardens and its historic downtown near Lake Wailes. Older Mediterranean Revival and bungalow homes with plaster interiors sit alongside mid-century block homes and newer subdivisions.

How a painting prep job runs
Find every flaw
Walls are inspected with a low-angle light and each defect is marked, so nothing is left for the paint to reveal.
Repair and seal
Holes and cracks are repaired, torn paper is sealed with a shellac or oil-based primer and rough areas are skim coated.
Sand and clean
Repairs are sanded flush with dust extraction, and walls are vacuumed and wiped so primer bonds to a clean surface.
Prime correctly
We apply the primer suited to the surface, from drywall sealer to stain blocker to bonding primer, ready for the topcoat.

Painting Prep questions
Can you paint over wallpaper glue residue?
Not directly. Residue reacts with water-based paint and can crack or wrinkle. It should be washed off, then the wall sealed with an appropriate primer and skim coated if the surface is rough.
What primer covers water stains?
A stain-blocking primer, typically shellac or oil based. Ordinary latex primer lets the stain bleed back through. The leak must be fixed and the area dry first.
Do you caulk trim as part of painting prep?
Yes. Gaps between baseboards, casing and walls are filled with paintable acrylic caulk so the finished paint line looks clean and continuous.
Is skim coating part of painting prep?
When a wall has many small defects, glue residue or patchy repairs, a skim coat over the whole surface is the most reliable way to get it flat and uniform before painting.
