Older plumbing, open walls
When an older home's plumbing starts failing, owners face a choice: keep fixing leaks as they appear, or repipe the house. Either way, walls get opened. A single leak means one cut-out, often under a sink or behind a toilet. A whole-house repipe can mean openings in several rooms, typically along hallways, behind fixtures and sometimes in ceilings.
Plumbers usually leave those openings for someone else to close. In Oneco, that is often us. We patch every hole, match the texture and prime the repairs, so your walls look as they did before the plumbing work. Our drywall repair after plumbing work page goes into more detail.

Signs a leak has reached your drywall
Paint bubbling or peeling low on a wall near a bathroom or kitchen.
Baseboards swelling or separating from the wall.
A brown ring on the ceiling below a bathroom or AC closet.
Soft, crumbly board when pressed gently.
A persistent musty smell inside a vanity or closet.
Dry it or replace it?
Drywall that got briefly wet from clean water and is still firm can sometimes be dried and kept, with a stain-blocking primer before repainting. Board that stayed wet, is soft, has crumbled at the bottom, or was soaked by dirty water should be replaced. The paper facing and gypsum core lose strength, and wet board can support mold growth.
We make that call on site with a moisture meter and a hands-on check. Where replacement is needed, we cut back to sound material, install board of matching thickness, and finish it so the patch is invisible. In bathrooms and laundry rooms we use moisture-resistant board for the replacement.
One more consideration is what sits behind the board. Wet fiberglass insulation in an exterior wall holds moisture against the framing for a long time, so we pull and replace any that is soaked. In interior walls there is usually no insulation, which makes drying faster but also lets water travel farther along the bottom plate than you would expect.

Leaks you can prevent
A few habits reduce the odds of needing us after a leak. Replace braided supply lines under sinks and toilets when they show rust or bulging. Have the AC drain line flushed during routine service, since a clogged line is one of the most common causes of ceiling stains. Keep an eye on the water heater pan and the floor around it. And if a repipe is in your future, ask your plumber to plan access holes in closets or behind furniture where possible; they are just as easy for us to patch, but less visible if you ever need to open them again.

Frequently Asked Questions
My plumber left several holes after a repipe. Can you fix all of them?
Yes. We patch every opening, match texture and prime the repairs for paint. Photograph each hole and text them to us, and we will send one written quote for the whole job.
Can wet drywall be saved?
Sometimes. If it was briefly wet from clean water and is still firm, it can often be dried and primed. If it is soft, crumbling or stayed wet, it should be replaced. We check with a moisture meter before deciding.
Do you fix the leak too?
No. We are drywall specialists, not plumbers. A licensed plumber should find and fix the leak first. Once the pipe is repaired and the area has dried, we repair the wall or ceiling and match the finish.
How long does repipe patching take?
It depends on how many openings there are and how large they are. Many homes can be patched over one or two visits, allowing time for compound to dry between coats before texture and primer go on.
