Nail Pop Repair in Lutz, FL
Hillsborough has a wide spread of housing, from older block homes in established Tampa neighbourhoods to large newer subdivisions around Brandon, Riverview and FishHawk. The newer builds are where we most often see a crop of pops appear as fresh framing dries out. Nail pop repair fixes the small bumps, rings and cracked dimples that appear when drywall fasteners work loose as framing dries and shifts.

Nail Pop Repair for Lutz homes
Lutz is a lake-dotted community in northern Hillsborough County along US 41 and Dale Mabry Highway, bordering Pasco County. Its homes range from older lakeside houses and horse properties to large homes in gated communities such as Cheval and newer subdivisions.
Leaks from long roof runs and pool enclosures are a frequent Lutz repair, and we cut back to dry board before replacing it.

How the repair works
Trace the loose fasteners
We find the framing behind each pop and check the fasteners along the same stud or joist for movement.
Pull the board tight
New drywall screws go in just above and below the pop, drawing the sheet back against the wood.
Deal with the old nail
The original fastener is extracted or sunk below the surface, and loose compound around it is scraped clear.
Fill and finish
Thin coats of compound are feathered over each head, sanded smooth and textured where needed.
Prime and touch up
The spots are primed and touch-up paint is applied so the repairs disappear into the wall.
Nail Pop Repair questions
Will the repaired spots show through the paint?
Not when they are finished properly. We feather the compound, match the texture and prime before touching up, so the raw patch does not flash or leave a halo.
What causes drywall nail pops?
Mostly framing lumber shrinking as it dries, plus seasonal movement in roof trusses. When the wood pulls back slightly, the drywall loses contact with it and the fastener heads are left sticking out.
Why are there so many nail pops in my new house?
New framing still carries moisture from construction. Once air conditioning dries it out, the wood shrinks and fasteners loosen. It is common and cosmetic, and most of the movement settles down after the first year or so.
Is it better to use screws or nails to fix a pop?
Screws. A drywall screw grips the framing far better than a nail and pulls the sheet tight. Re-hammering the old nail leaves it in an enlarged hole with little holding power, so it tends to pop again.
